- 20 May 2021 - Blue Cloud in FAO - introduction for MSC
Meeting Notes¶
Participants:
FAO (Marc Taconet, Anton Ellenbroek, Bracken van Niekerk, Aureliano Gentile)
MSC (Peter Hair, Lauren Koerner, Katie Longo)
Summary¶
- MSC has had recent changes in staff working on data teams, and wanted to reacquaint/reconnect with iMarine
- Global Record of Stocks and Fisheries is project to provide standardised database of stocks and fisheries by aggregating and standardising data from FIRMS, RAM, and Fish Source
- Uses data published in sources and in the public domain
- Assigns Unique ID and semantic ID for which records and source information can be referenced
- Known complications may exist where there are overlaps and uncertainties, in which case processes dictate whether or not to merge and publish the record
- Fish Nutrition project to tie data from labs on fish nutrition to data on stocks
- Want to be able to make a link from nutrition to the stock in GRSF
- MSC currently uses stock data from RAM, and has challenges around:
- data not being updated often enough
- stocks in MSC reports being redefined (standardization)
Next steps¶
- MSC to discuss internally ideas for uses of GRSF UUID or other synergies, and share
- MSC to share a description of information we have, how it’s organised, and provide a sample to iMarine for a test.
