April 12, 2017 - GRSF development work plan

Meeting Notes
Topics: GRSF development work plan is discussed following the 4th TCom and the circulation of the report for the EAB TWG2 on GRSF meeting
Participants:
CNR (Pasquale Pagano)
FAO (Giulia Gorelli, Anton Ellenbroek, Emmanuel Blondel, Aureliano Gentile)
FORTH (Yannis Marketakis, Nikos Minadakis)

Notes
The EAB TWG2 on GRSF meeting produced recommendations on:

i) standards for the fields of the GRSF records,
ii) UUID and semantic identifiers,
iii) mappings to standards,
iv) traceability,
v) master data management,
vi) records validation,
vii) GRSF Catalogue,
viii) Services/interface requirements for GRSF fisheries records,
ix) requirements for reporting on stock status,
x) governance and sustainability,
xi) actions for the GRSF Team, and
xii) a work plan for updating the GRSF knowledge base.

CNR and FORTH development teams have been invited to follow up according to the GRSF recommendations and working plans discussed at the 4th TCom (Copenhagen, March 2017).

  • Update the algorithm to build the GRSF knowledge base (March - May)
  • Re-generate GRSF records (3 times by the end of the project)
  • Harvesting new data from sources (2-3 times by the end of the project)
  • Partners’ Tests (i.e. Data validation, UUIDs, etc.) (June - July)
  • Update GRSF interfaces (Admin and Public) (March - May)
  • Complete the development of the management functions (Mngt. panel) (March - May) {Merge function - Display proximities - Traceability flag - Field comment for users with categories}
  • Other requirements, integration of competency queries, downloads, etc. (from September)

Yannis Marketakis and Nikos Minadakis (FORTH) highlighted that some activities will be shifted since the GRSF report was circulated only recently and the envisaged actions on March have not been started yet.

Pasquale Pagano (CNR) reported that some activities have already started for improving the CKAN catalogue, in particular:

Visualization of GRSF elements in specific arrangements (i.e. stock badge);
Creation of "Type" as additional category beyond the exisisting "groupd" and "tags";
Downloads options as per GRSF recommendations.

Giulia Gorelli (FAO) showed the download requirements, and Anton Ellenbroek (FAO) suggested to investigate the possibility to harvest input data used for producing the stock assessment results and to be able to reproduce them.

Aureliano Gentile (FAO) highlighted how critical is the coming phase of upgrading the GRSF knowledge base in compliance with the GRSF recommendations including mappings, implementation of standards, logic for semantic identifiers, etc.

Follow-up actions

  • FAO to update the GRSF requirement page
  • FAO to provide DSDs for GRSF standards and mappings, i.e. RAM areas
  • FAO to liaise with FishSource for completing the API service for geospatial data (intersecting computations), FAO to provide intersection threshold value
  • FORTH to liaise with CNR for "ASFIS to WoRMS" mapping
  • FORTH to investigate if time-dependent information can be stored in a triplestore without causing side effects in terms of scalability at querying time.
