Notes
UUIDs (universally unique identifiers) for the GRSF records¶
*GRSF Unique Identifiers Examples were provided by FAO, FishSource, RAM.
*Information on management entities and areas were the main points of discussion. The need to revise their utilization according to the use cases was highlighted.
Regarding management entities, the discussion is still open on which approach to adopt in case of multiple entities and different levels of jurisdictions (e.g. coastal flag state, foreign flag state, RFMO jurisdiction), and how relevant is the management entity information in the UUIDs (See also follow-up actions).
For area, two separate fields to store information on fishing operations vs. jurisdictions (e.g. statistical areas and spatial management unit) was deemed appropriate.

*FishSource to provide brief description on the following:
Management Entity: is it relevant for traceability purposes having the entity in the UID? In case of multiple entities for the same fishery, these may have different roles, is there any preferred roles? Under which rationale, in example: any criteria to identify a primary management entity?
Area: geospatial information on fishing operations vs. jurisdictions (e.g. statistical areas and spatial management unit), what is needed for traceability purpose?
On the above, do you have relevant information located in specific fields of the FishSource database?
*As preparation of the next call, FAO to provide a wrap-up of the requirements collected so far and to highlight the outstanding issues.
